Black History Month

13 Feb

We have five shelves of books dedicated to Black History Month in our back room, in addition to titles in our African-American Studies section and scattered throughout the store (chapter books, picture books, history, biography, poetry, fiction, etc.). We also have a selection of titles in the window, including Never Caught, the just-published story of one of the slaves George Washington moved to Philadelphia when he lived here as president. Ona Judge (and she was not alone in this) liberated herself, escaping from the presidential house and fleeing north. She successfully resisted his efforts to capture her, and lived out her life in freedom.
