Street vendors of Peru

24 Apr

Behrooz Ghassemi’s new book, “History, political economy and visual interpretation of the street venders of Peru,” is a bilingual (English and Spanish) book with two covers, 1,071 photographs, mostly in color, and observations and reflections based on many years working in that country. Ghassemi is an Iranian exile, anthropologist, photographer and documentarian, who has lived in Peru for much of the past two decades. As he says in the introduction, this book “could fill a partial void created by a dereliction of duty on the part of academic historians of socio-economic reality of Peru in the last four decades and a half (1965-2010).”

Friday, May 2, 7 pm, at Bindlestiff Books. Copies of the book will be available.

Closed Easter

15 Apr

Bindlestiff will be closed Sunday, April 20.

It might be good to phone (215.662.5780) before coming by Wednesday afternoons after 3:30. Coverage on that shift is a little Wobbly right now; we’re working in a couple of new staffers and should have scheduling nailed down by the end of the month.
